La Seine en Crue

The sun is back, and the level of the Seine is almost back to normal. It went down as quickly as it went up.

Although it did mean that no one was enjoying apéritif on the quais for a few days, a MUST in June, I quite enjoyed witnessing the level of the water going up, people bending over bridges to look at the trees “les pieds dans l’eau” and boats being as high as the berges. After all, it had been over a hundred years since the Seine had gone up this high!

I’m sorry for anyone who came all the way to visit Paris last week and found themselves trapped in the rain. Our city is so much more beautiful in the sun and Parisians do like to go out (I think that’s all we do…)! But at least you’ll know you witnessed Paris, like me, at a unique time!
