Coffee and Wifi in Hô Chi Minh City, District 1

I love a good cà phê sữa đá, homemade by my aunt, or  outside on a terrace where other Vietnamese people like to sit in the morning while it’s still a bit cool.

But let’s face it, I’m part of the Y generation and vitally need to check my emails and all sorts of social media notifications. Staying at my grandma’s where there’s no wifi did me some good as I had a bit of a detox, but I enjoyed going around town on my cousin’s motocycle to explore the coffee scene of Hô Chi Minh City and have some geek time on my phone, tablet and laptop.

If you ever feel the need to find shelter from the noisy streets of Saigon in a cool and relaxing café where you’ll be able to scroll up and down as indefinitely as you want, here are 3 spots that have wifi which I am sure you will love as much as I do.

  1. Chai Cafe

A really hipster yet quiet spot. Order your drink (frozen cappuccino is a thing) and head upstairs. You’ll pass vintage film cameras, old sewing machines converted into tables, brick walls, a little fountain, comfy couches and a massive lavender plant in the middle of the room. The big windows illuminate the room and make the whole place absolutely picture worthy. Pick your spot and enjoy.

Adress: 393/6 Trần Hưng Đạo, Quận 1

  1. Shin Coffee

Their wifi code is “bestcoffeeintown” and they’re not fooling themselves. The smell of freshly ground coffee hits you as you walk in this very central location, the soothing music, more brick walls. It’s less on the quiet side: many tourists also come to break their wifi fast but the atmosphere remains very relaxing. Try their matcha frappe.

Address: 13 Nguyễn Thiệp, Bến Nghé
Price: around 60,000 VND

  1. Tea Maison

I stumbled upon this place by accident, getting lost in and old building after looking at some art galleries. The inside of the building makes it look abandoned and slightly dodgy but it’s actually a very busy spot in Saigon, hosting various cafes and restaurants including L’Usine. To get to Tea Maison, enter the art gallery off Đồng Khởi, take the left corridor, walk up the stairs to the second floor and you’re there. Another cute and calm spot with a cooling indoors space and a little terrace.

Address: 151 Đồng Khởi, Bến Nghé
Price: around 45,000 VND
