I’ve been pretty absent from the blog lately, but that’s all because I was away in America for a couple of weeks, eating. obviously. I love visiting Julien in DC as we have the best time checking off our list all the places where I like to eat, including this amazing pizza place called 2 Amys.
I mean, how could you not go check it out when they claim on their menu that their pizzas are “d.o.c” ? (d.o.c = “Denominazione di Origine Controllata aka AUTHENTIC ITALIAN PIZZA)
We discovered this place about a year and a half ago when a friend took us out for dinner. Thankfully, his girlfriend eats there every single week and knows everyone in the restaurant so we had no problem getting a table but beware, as it gets really busy and you might have to queue for a bit (you can always order take away pizza) but I promise the experience is worth it.
The atmosphere is great as the crowd is composed of all sorts of people including families, couples, young groups etc.
They have a great selection of mini appetisers and I recommend you get 2 or 3 per person before digging in the pizza menu. As for the pizza, I’m a purist and I go for the classic Margherita (although I got the “extra” one because I like my cherry tomatoes).
I have to say my favourite bit about their pizza must be the crust… It has nothing to do with that crust you tend to not eat because it’s bland and not very appetising. Theirs is like sourdough: it’s really crisp and charred on the outside thanks to the traditional pizza oven, but super airy and soft on the inside; it really is a treat on its own.
What I also love about that place is the size of the pizzas: they’re satisfying but don’t leave you with a massive food baby which eventually lead you to a food coma! Yay! That leaves room for dessert (I ALWAYS want dessert) and if I were you I would try their cannelloni ;)
If you’re looking for the best pizza in Washington, stop looking and head to 2 Amys!
